Jessica Luhrs

Assistant Director of Bands
Ms. Jessica Luhrs is the Director of Orchestras and Assistant Director of Bands at Riverwood International Charter School. Her duties include directing three orchestras, teaching music technology and music theory, and assisting with the direction of marching band.
Originally from Naperville, IL, Ms. Luhrs left the Chicago area after high school to attend Auburn University, where she earned degrees in music education and clarinet performance. During her time at Auburn, Ms. Luhrs was a multifaceted musician. She was a member of the Community Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Chamber Choir, Marching Band, Clarinet Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, and Women's Chorus. The Auburn Community Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Chamber Choir are all the top performing groups at Auburn. She was the clarinet section leader of the Auburn University Marching Band clarinet section during her senior year. Ms. Luhrs was also an active member of Tau Beta Sigma, a national band service sorority, during her time at Auburn. She served as corresponding secretary during her junior year and president during her senior year. She was inducted in Pi Kappa Lambda, a national music honor society, her senior year.

This will be the fourth year of teaching for Ms. Luhrs, and her second year at Riverwood. Prior to teaching at Riverwood, Ms. Luhrs taught general music and choir at Evansdale Elementary School with DeKalb County Schools for two years. Before that, she worked as a Youth Events Coordinator at Walt Disney World, where she coordinated and facilitated the annual Festival Disney event.

Ms. Luhrs is an avid sports fan, and loves to cheer on her Auburn Tigers, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta United teams in her spare time. She also likes to read, hike, practice yoga, and spend time with her black lab, Wrigley.
