November 2018 Updates

November 27th, 2018

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  As we head into this final stretch of the semester before Winter Break, here's some important things to know for orchestra.

1. Winter Concert

The Winter Concert will be taking place on Thursday, December 6th at 6:30pm.  Student call time is 5:30pm.  This is a combined band and orchestra concert and will feature music that students prepared for the fall concert as well as new selections for the holiday season.  This is a mandatory graded event for all orchestra students.

2. Winter Concert Dress Rehearsal

The Winter Concert Dress Rehearsal will be taking place on Wednesday, December 5th from 4pm-6pm.  This is a mandatory graded event for all orchestra students.  Students may leave when they're finished with their portion of the dress rehearsal.

3. Baskin Robbins Spirit Night

Our ongoing fundraiser at the Baskin Robbins on Hammond Drive will be taking place this Thursday, November 29th from 4pm-10pm.  Our Booster organization will receive 20% of the profits when you let them know that you're in support of RICS BOB.

​

4. Extra Performance Opportunity

We will be performing holiday selections at the Hammond Glen Retirement Community on Saturday, December 15th at 2pm.  Students will be expected to arrive at 1:30pm and can plan to stay until 3pm at the latest.  This is a voluntary event for all orchestra students.  Students who interested in participating must commit to attending by Friday, November 30th.

5. Grades

Students have been diligent about checking their grades and have asked about extra credit opportunities.  Students may earn extra credit by participating in any fundraising opportunities, extra performances, or by completing the final exam study guide that will be given to students during the last week of classes.  Also, be mindful that due to the power outage at the Fall concert, our Winter Concert will be worth 200 points instead of 100 points.  This will given students the opportunity to earn the same amount of points that they would have if the Fall Concert had taken place as scheduled.

Thank you to everyone for being flexible and understanding last week as we dealt with our fall concert being cancelled.  Here are some updates as we head into the month of November

​

1. Winter Concert

The Winter Concert will be taking place on Thursday, December 6th at 6:30pm.  This will feature music that the students prepared for the fall concert as well as new selections for the holiday season.  There will also be a dress rehearsal for this concert.  The dress rehearsal will be Wednesday, December 5th from 4pm-6pm.

2. Fundraising Opportunities

We currently have two fundraisers that students can participate in to help our Band and Orchestra Boosters.  The first is our annual Boston Butt Fundraiser.  Sales are starting now and will go until November 16th.  Pick up will be between December 3rd and December 7th.  The second is an ongoing fundraiser at the Baskin Robbins on Hammond Drive.  From 4pm-10pm on the last Thursday of every month, we will receive 20% of Baskin Robbin's profit when you let them know that you are in support of RICS BOB

3. FanCloth Update

Thank you to those who purchased orchestra merchandise.  We sold a total of 28 items.  The orders are currently being processed and students should receive them in class before Thanksgiving Break.

​

4. Volunteering Opportunity

We are in need of volunteers at the concession stand this Friday for the Riverwood versus Jackson football game.  If you are able to sign up, let me know!
