October 2018 Updates

Our combined Band and Orchestra Concert is this week! Below is information regarding the concert.

1. Dress Rehearsal
The dress rehearsal for our concert will be Wednesday, October 24th from 4-6pm in the RICS Auditorium. Attendance is mandatory for all students and part of their performance grade. Students may leave when they are done with their part of the dress rehearsal

2. Concert
Out concert is Thursday, October 25th starting at 6:30pm in the RICS Auditorium. Students need to arrive at 5:30 in full concert attire.

3. Grading Reminders
As a reminder, students earn grades for attending both the concert and dress rehearsal. These grades are worth 40% of the student's overall grade. Attendance is MANDATORY for all students and notice of a predetermined absence must be given directly to me at least 24 hours in advance. Please note that giving notice doesn't automatically mean that the absence will be excused. Additionally, students need to be on time and in full concert attire in order to receive full credit for each grade. Students who are not in full concert attire will automatically receive a '75' for their concert grade and students who are late to either the dress rehearsal or concert will receive an '80' for their dress rehearsal/concert grade.

4. Concert Attire
Students must be in full concert attire at the concert. For men, this includes the black tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants, white tuxedo shirt, bow tie, cummerbund, black dress shoes, and black socks. For women, this includes black concert dress and black closed toe dress shoes.

We're officially in concert month! Below is information about the upcoming Concert and other events happening in Orchestra:​
1. Fall Concert and Dress Rehearsal Our fall concert is Thursday, October 25th at 6:30pm in the RICS Auditorium. Studentcall time is 5:30pm. This is a combined band and orchestra concert. We will have our concert dress rehearsal on Wednesday,, October 24th from 4pm-6pm. Attendance at the dress rehearsal and concert is MANDATORY for all students.
2. Fulton County Honor Orchestra Students interested in auditioning for the Fulton County Honor Orchestra must let me know by Wednesday, October 3rd. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, November 7th from 4:30-7pm and the event will take place on Monday, November 12th and Tuesday, November 13th. Both are at Centennial High School.

3. Fan Cloth
We've partnered with the company Fan Cloth to provide our students with orchestra merchandise. If you or your student would like to purchase, click on the link below, or fill out the order form coming home with your student today or tomorrow. Students can turn in paper copies to me in class. The order will be shipped to Riverwood and handed out in class. The sale ends on Friday, October 5th so make sure to order ASAP if you want anything! 4. Taco Mac Spirit Night The Band and Orchestra Boosters (BOB) are hosting a spirit night at Taco Mac at the Prado (5600 Roswell Rd.) on Wednesday, October 10th, starting at 6pm. Any patron can turn their receipt to the BOB drop box and we will earn 10% back.
5. Volunteer Opportunities We are looking for parents to serve as backstage monitors (help with concert attire, noise levels, etc.), door monitors (ensure people are only entering and exiting the auditorium between pieces) and parents to serve at the BOB table before the concert.
