January 2019 Updates
January 7th
Welcome back! I hope you and your families had a fantastic holiday season. We kick off 2019 by jumping right into preparations for LGPE. Below is information about LGPE and other events happening in orchestra as we start the second semester.
1. LGPE
Each orchestra will participate in LGPE, which stands for large group performance evaluation. LGPE is a required event for all orchestra students. Below are the dates, times, and location of each orchestra's LGPE performance:
Intermediate Orchestra: Thursday, March 14th at 2:30pm at North Atlanta HS Advanced Orchestra: Wednesday, March 13th at 7:00pm at North Atlanta HS Mastery Orchestra: Thursday, March 14th at 4:45pm at North Atlanta HS
We will need chaperones for LGPE. If you are able to chaperone for either day, please let me know.

2. Varsity Lettering Each orchestra student has the chance to earn a varsity letter in orchestra. Students earn letters similar to how they earn them in sports; orchestra students have a list of achievements/requirements to meet in order to earn their letter. Students have received guidelines regarding how they can letter in orchestra. A copy of the lettering requirements can be found on the 'student resources' page under the 'student area' tab.

3. Calendar
This week I passed out a calendar of events to students from now until winter break. You can find the calendar on the 'student resources' page under the 'student area' tab. Note that all events in bold are required of all orchestra students.

I look forward to a great semester!

January 18th
I hope you and your family have had a great start to the semester so far. We have added a few dates to the calendar that I wanted to make you all aware of.

1. Perspective Parent Meeting
The Riverwood Band and Orchestra Boosters will host a perspective parent meeting on Thursday, January 24th at 6pm in the RICS Band Room, room A5. Any parent of a rising 9th grader considering band or orchestra at Riverwood should attend. We will explain why your student should continue with music in high school, show how your student can be a part of band or orchestra while experiencing some of the other great programs Riverwood offers, and give you an overview of our programs and let you know how you can join.

2. RICS BOB General Meeting
We will have a BOB general meeting on Monday, February 11th at 6:30pm in the RICS Band Room, room A5. The general meeting is for parents who have a student in ANY of the band and orchestra ensembles. We will discuss what BOB has accomplished so far this semester and our plans for the future. Hope to see you there!

3. Playing Tests
We have begun our playing tests for the semester in orchestra. I have posted the test requirements on the video submission page under the Student Area tab of the website, and passed out the requirements to students in class. Please encourage students to practice and help them remember their playing test deadlines.

Enjoy your three day weekend!
